I made a new blog

It's for keeping track of crafty things I do.  Other reasons are outlined in said blog.  Here it is.  This is for all those who are reading about our family and do not care that I sew.  This blog will now just be for familial happenings, and by that I mean stuff Mim does.

I'm leaving my Valentine's decorations up until the end of the month

Go ahead and try to stop me. 
That's a bummer that you can't see the video on the last post.  Especially considering that's what the whole last post is.  Well, she's bouncing up and down to a singing turtle that Gramma and Grandpa gave her for Christmas.  

Here she is, being her cute little self.  The skirt she's wearing is one I whipped up, just to see if making a skirt was as easy as I thought it would be.  I'll make some changes next time, but it really was super simple.  The skirt was only a small part of my sewing kick.  I don't know what's gotten into me lately, but I've wanted to make everything.  For our anniversary, I gave Mike curtains.  He gets freaked out by the windows on the kitchen door when it's dark out and hates that people could see in. 

Problem solved.  Don't worry, I gave him other stuff for our anniversary, as well.  

On with the sewing.   I decided I wanted to make shoes for Mim.  They're really more like slippers, the bottom is only a double layer of felt, but I've been thinking about looking online and buying leather.  I love these kinds of shoes, but it'll probably turn out to be cheaper to buy them than make them.  Which means Mim will probably have to go without, since I balk at paying 20$ plus for baby shoes.  I was going to splurge for her birthday and get these (the pink ones), but now they're out of stock for the next 11 weeks.  Boo.  
And now, the reason I'm keeping my Valentine's stuff up until Sunday:

This wreath.  I only made it a few nights before Valentine's day, when a friend and I got together for a playdate (her daughter is only a few weeks older than Mim).  I got the idea from Mike's cousin's blog here and I wanted my own instantly.  

I got a great deal on the fabric, since Broadbent's was trying to clear out their Valentine stuff.  

Well, that's all the business I have pictures for.  Other things, like me and Mike's lovely and delicious Valentine's dinner at home, weren't picture worthy, I suppose (yes it was, we totally ate at the table and it had a tablecloth on it).  We also had a great anniversary date (yep, it was 3 years on the 15th), but I didn't get pictures of any of that stuff, either.  I will tell you what Mike got me, though.  It was the best and worst gift I've ever received.  The best, because it was a massage and I've had some crazy back/neck/shoulder stuff going on ever since Mim was born and it was pure heaven to relax for an hour and get all that weirdness worked out.  It was also the worst, though, because now I'm sad that I don't get professional massages constantly.  So really it was mostly the best gift I've ever gotten.  Anyway- Mike got the massage from a friend, Michelle.  She and her husband are both licensed and she works at a chiropractor's office as well as from home, so if anyone out there is interested, let me know and I'll get you in contact with them.  She lives in American Fork, so it's conveniently located, as well.   

 
Also, Mim took some steps the other day.  Mike and I are counting them as her first, since he was there for it.  I'm sure it'll be no time at all before she's running around, getting into even more things.  Oh boy do I love that squishy face.

Christmas and January

First:  I'm hating on Blogger right now.  The new text editor has no great way to add videos (if you know of one, please pass it on) but the old one won't let you change your font.  Awesome job, guys.  
The reason I'm mad is that I have a really cute video of Mim "dancing" (bobbing up and down and swaying back and forth) to a little song one of her toys plays.  We discovered her little talent on Christmas Eve while we were visiting my parents.  It's so cute.  

So, here she is in a super cute outfit., with super cute pigtails.  I love it.

Nate and Ki and their kids came into town on New Year's Eve, and the next day we all got together.  This is Grandpa with his traditional picture of him with all three little ones.

This picture is so cute.  Mim is doing her new squinty cheese face for the camera, and Arie is doing a face that is very...Arie-like.

We all got sick in January- I probably got over the worst of it the fastest, so I went to church one week and left Mike home with Mim.  When I came home, Mim was dressed in a Halloween costume.  

She didn't mind, though. 
Other than that... 
My grandpa went in for heart surgery a few weeks ago and is still recovering.  He's made a lot of progress and we're all cheering him on.  
Mim has 5 teeth.  One of her top fronts came in all alone and the two on either side of it came in at the same time.
We're still a little sick (just me and Mike, not so much Mim, which is good)- this is the cold that just won't go away.
Mike and I are enjoying our jobs.  I'm still at UVU, but teaching a lecture this semester instead of a lab.  
We'll hopefully be headed out to Philadelphia to see Ki and Nate during the summer, I plan on booking the tickets as soon as we get our tax return. 

Something awesome at work

This happened awhile ago...
Mike came home from work and said that two really cool things had happened that day. Then he changed his mind and said one really cool thing and one kind of lame but cool thing happened. The two things were that he was now the backup guy for when the FBI calls (a little background- the FBI uses the software that his company supports and they have a special number that they call when they need someone; they complained that they couldn't always get through, and thus Mike is made the backup guy, which I think is pretty cool for his 3rd week of work) and the second thing was that Costco came with a truck and delivered around $1500 worth of food to their break room. I celebrated with Mike (read: we did some kissing) and then said, "Wait, which one of those is the kind of lame thing?" You can probably guess. I was thinking the Costco truck was not as cool, but of course that was the undeniably awesome thing that happened, in Mike's opinion. Awesome.
